Eight teams are eyeing the title in the Nairobi Regional Finals of the ongoing Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom Youth tournament season 3. The matches are going to be played this weekend on the 22nd and 23rd of February, in Jamhuri High School.
Reigning champions in the girl’s category, Acakoro Ladies from Kasarani look to successfully defend their title. In the boy’s category, last season winners, South B United from Starehe were eliminated at the group stages setting the stage for new winners to be crowned.
Four boy’s teams; Kenya School of Government (KSG) from Westlands, Dagoretti Mixed Boys, Hakati Sportiff from Makadara and Brookshine Academy from Kasarani will join four girl’s teams; Acakoro Ladies, St.Anne’s Eaglets from Makadara, Kibagare from Westlands and Beijing Raiders from Starehe in the regional finals.
Over 100 teams participated in the Nairobi Regional qualifier games of the tournament that aims at scouting for grassroot football talent and propelling gifted players to the national teams.
Tumaini School and Isiolo Starlets from Makueni won the Eastern Regional Finals to join North Eastern’s Berlin FC from Garissa, Coast Region’s Yanga FC from Malindi and Kwale Ladies, and Central Region’s Falling Waters from Laikipia and Ulinzi Youth from Nanyuki who have secured a ticket to the Nationals.
The winners will walk away with Ksh 200,000 each and a chance to represent the region at the national finals set for June this year where Ksh 1M is at stake. Runner’s-up will take home Ksh 100,000 among other individual prizes.
The regional finals will begin with mentorship clinics on Friday where players will be imparted with life skills necessary to lead successful careers on and off the pitch. The semi-finals will be played on Saturday to set up for the finals on Sunday.
An all-star team will be selected from the 8 regional finals to attend a training camp in the home of La liga giants FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, Spain
